One of the best parts of the job when you’re a Realtor is getting to see tons of seriously gorgeous homes. And in Central Park, a master-planned community where the oldest houses were built a mere 25 years ago, it’s especially fascinating to see how owners make each builder model their own. I see so many inspiring rooms and smart upgrades, like wallpapered powder rooms, built-in mudrooms, cozy offices, standout lighting, fun kitchens, porches, and more.

So I’m kicking off a new series of posts you’ll see here on Central Park Scoop! The idea is to answer the questions we get all the time from neighbors and clients: How do I make my builder floor plan feel more “me”? What’s worked well for others with the same model? We’ll celebrate local design talent, give homeowners attainable inspiration, and showcase the creativity happening right here in our neighborhood.

Our first post features a stunning laundry room makeover. Laundry spaces are finally getting the attention they deserve, with families realizing the space can be more than a damp basement corner where you spend as little time as possible! With soothing organization, pretty colors, and sophisticated finishes, laundry rooms are ready for the spotlight.

So I was especially inspired by this before and after, done by Georgeson Design + Build (check out their Instagram for even more inspiration) on a New Town model built sometime around 2005. We got some insider information from Kyndra Georgeson, the firm’s lead designer and co-founder.

— What were the main goals of the project?

“We wanted to create a more usable space, remove the back door, and add closed storage.”

— How could other homes get a similar effect in their laundry area?

“Stack the washer and dryer and move the machines away from door swings if possible. Add custom storage for brooms and detergent and to hide dirty laundry! And add new lighting and flooring.”

— What do you feel were the biggest successes of the project?

“The clients love it—especially the fact that it’s no longer an eyesore, since it is right off the kitchen!”Get inspired, take notes, and whether you’re an owner or designer, share your photos of houses in Central Park with me for upcoming posts!
