My body has been frequently reminding me that I am quickly approaching my 42nd birthday. It’s been harder to get going in the morning without that second or third cup of coffee, and my smile reflects my dependence on caffeine.

When I heard there was a new and affordable teeth whitening option in Stapleton, I made an appointment in hopes of brightening my smile. I’ve wanted to whiten my teeth for a while now, but just couldn’t stomach the cost.

WhiteNow Teeth Whitening recently set up shop in the Stapleton Town Center, in a suite behind Blue Creek Spa. The owner, Marc Isaac, is a Stapleton resident and dentist with a practice in Denver South. He says offering the service outside of his dental office cuts down on overhead costs since the whitening treatment does not have to be performed by a dentist or dental hygienist — so the savings are passed on to the client.

Example of before and after treatment results

The last time I had my teeth whitened was before I got married 13 years ago. I still remember how sensitive my teeth were after the service, so I was a bit hesitant to experience that again. Fortunately, the product that WhiteNow uses doesn’t contain preservatives or a high level of hydrogen peroxide, which causes teeth sensitivity. WhiteNow uses a LED laser light along with a natural whitening gel that is plant and mineral based and is FDA approved.

Before the product is applied to the teeth, a protective layer of vitamin E is placed on the gums. Typically clients undergo three, 20-minute sessions under the laser to achieve the desired whitening results. All I had to do was lie back and relax in the massage chair while a tray kept my mouth in the proper position. I was in and out in about 1.5 hours.

Clients are instructed to adhere to a “white” diet for the first 24 hours after the service; then you can eat and drink normally. For at-home upkeep, a maintenance kit is available for $60.

I was able to see the results immediately. I went from a “4/5” on the tooth color scale to a “1/2.” I experienced minimal sensitivity after the service, which easily was managed with one dose of Ibuprofen.
