8741 E. 33rd Ave is listed for $1,550,000

So much is going on this summer – and it’s only mid-June! From the Nuggets winning the NBA Championship to the constant rainstorms to the Federal Reserve *not* hiking rates the other day, we’ve have a whirlwind of activity the past couple of weeks.

Before we dive in, I thought in this week’s real estate update we’d try something new – and chat about a historically famous piece of real estate about a mile east of Denver’s Central Park.

What exactly is this famous real estate? Well, a couple of us at the Scoop were walking through the Anschutz Medical Campus last week, and we snapped a quick picture of famous Building 500.

Building 500 on the Anschutz Campus

So … what’s Building 500?

Tucked away between Children’s Hospital Colorado and the CU hospital, Building 500 – which got its name because it’s 500 feet from the middle of the Anschutz Campus – opened 4 days before Pearl Harbor in 1941. Not only was it the largest building in all of Colorado when it opened, but it was also the largest hospital the Army had ever built.

But what ultimately made Building 500 famous was President Dwight Eisenhower, who spent almost two months on the 8th Floor recovering from a heart attack. The “Eisenhower Suite” includes Ike’s room, a Secret Service room, and a Nurse’s room. The hospital was inundated with flowers, letters, foreign dignitaries and more until Ike was released and won reelection a year later.

All of this history is just a couple minutes east of Eastbridge Town Center and Isabella Bird Community School. So next time you’re on campus stop by!
