Msasa African Market returns Sept. 15
Msasa African Market is returning to Stapleton for a second year as part of the neighborhood’s inaugural Community Expedition celebration. The family-friendly market will be held at Conservatory Green Amphitheater on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature an array of African food, music, crafts, and story-telling.
Maxwell Ishmail, founder of Msasa and long-time Stapleton resident, says he was pleased with the support shown by the community last year and looks forward to introducing more people to the vast diversity of food and culture that the continent of Africa offers.
“Last year we were humbled by the support we got from the community. We learned a lot from the first market and this year we are really excited to partner with the MCA to offer a thrilling array of entertainment, an even bigger variety of food from the continent and even more craft vendors from all over Africa and the diaspora,” Maxwell says.
Food trucks and vendors will be on site serving cuisine from Senegal, Ethiopia, Soweto South Africa, Cape Town South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Jamaica. There will also be several non-profit partners at the event who will educate visitors about the important work they are doing across the continent.
This year’s Msasa Market will have a children’s area called Watoto Village which means “children” in Swahili. The village will have a wide range of children’s activities, face painting, interactive African music lessons, a crepes vendor, lemonade stand, and other yummy treats to keep the kiddos busy.
“This is a great opportunity for our neighbors near and beyond to come out for a day of fun, music, food and leave with a greater knowledge and appreciation of the cradle of humanity, Africa,” Maxwell says.

I could NOT find you-the address you gave is where the Farmers Market is. Can you tell me where you are so we can come? Thx
Hi Jeanine, so sorry you couldn’t find it and for not seeing your comment earlier. The event was at Conservatory Green (49th & Valentia), on the North side. We should have included the cross streets. The farmers market is at Founder’s Green at 29th and Roslyn, on the South side.
