Back when I started Central Park Scoop 14 years ago, my life was pretty different. My focus back then was on all the options for parents of little kids in the neighborhood. But now I find myself in a stage where parenting is still a huge part of my life, but other family pressures are presenting themselves too. A lot of us in the neighborhood are in our late 40s or early 50s now and our parents are getting older and needing us in ways they didn’t before.
That’s why I wanted to spread the word about a new company I learned about recently. Caring Transitions of East Denver is the local branch of a national company that specializes in all the unique issues around moving senior citizens. Jennifer Williams is the owner and shared with us why what they do is so needed: They have experience dealing with all the emotional weight that comes with downsizing or cleaning out a home, and their goal is to make every step of an extremely complicated and time-consuming process easier.
Not only are the folks at Caring Transitions skilled at working with people letting go of things with a lifetime of sentimental value, but they are experts in sorting out what is valuable enough to sell. They can list items on their own dedicated auction site and help with donations to people who really need it (like partnering with Project I See You, which works to empower women, including women who’ve become first-time homeowners) or manage disposing of the rest.
Jennifer pointed out to me that although they specialize in moving and downsizing seniors, that’s not all they do. Their same skills and resources apply to any emotionally difficult moves, such as cases of divorce. For all of these tough situations, where everything feels deeply personal to the people involved, it sounds so nice to have a neutral, experienced third party guiding the process!
Check out my chat with Jennifer in the video below, and reach out to her if you think this is a service your family needs.
Keep an eye out on the Scoop for more of this type of “mid life” content! My content is showing my age! (but that’s ok…the goal is to provide you with useful info!)
