Have you heard of “Concourse K”? It’s a new workout facility just 5 minutes from Central Park that I had a chance to try out. It was unlike any workout I’ve ever done, and I definitely want to tell you about it.
If you’re in your 40’s and need a workout option you’re actually excited to go to (me!) or if you’re a young serious athlete that needs efficient workouts and more recovery methods (my kids!) you’ll want to check this out! You can read about it in this blog post or skip to the end if you prefer to watch a video about it as we shot several with owner and longtime Central Park resident Keith Montoya.
I’m going to give an overview of Concourse K and their methods in this post in my own words. I haven’t studied the methodology beyond some basic AI searches and I have no idea if it’s the right thing for you, that’s for you to decide based on your health, your goals, etc. I just want to share my experience and you can try out a class completely free to see if it’s for you.
They invited me to try out a class, so I gave it a try. When I arrived, they were very welcoming and explained their methodology. They also explained I’d need to put on a full body suit that has electrodes in all the major muscle areas. They talked me through how their workouts are based on “EMS”, which stands for Electro Muscle Stimulation. I’ll explain it in my non-technical way or you can read about it on this page of their website. Basically, as you do the 30-minute workout, the suit is stimulating and activating deep into your muscles, basically leveraging your workout to make it more strenuous on your muscles. The workout was 30 minutes long and the instructor guided us through about 5 – 6 rotations of several executrices in that timeframe. I’d say the workout itself was not overly hard, but that’s the great part! With the EMS you don’t have to go as hard, it’s joint friendly and you still end up getting a very deep, tiring workout. I was tired by the end and my body feels like it had a really long hard workout.
The very efficient workout is great for those of us with busy schedules, but then when you’re done you get to enjoy what they referred to as “icing on the cake”, which are the wellness and recovery facilities they offer. You are free to use and enjoy the compression therapy, red light therapy, cold plunge tub, hot tub, infrared saunas, massage chairs, stretch aides and more! You can learn more about the wellness & recovery side here.
I love the idea of getting a more full-body workout that’s efficient and the idea that I can relax and recover with all the great facilities afterwards. Why not get both those things done rather than doing a longer, less efficient, harder on your joints typical workout? If those recovery amenities make me want to go more often that’s a huge bonus. I’m much more likely to go if the workout is quicker and the recovery time is enjoyable. That seems like a really sustainable and healthy way to work out.
In addition to just being a great place for us “40 somethings”, it’s also a great training facility for serious athletes. The space can be used by sports teams to supplement all that hard training they do elsewhere. Here they can do additional training, but then also benefit from all these recovery tools that young athletes typically don’t have access to. Kids and young adults are training harder than ever at their sport (any parent on a club team sees that first hand), so I love the idea of mixing in more recovery and rejuvenation. Here is the page on their website for team rentals of the facility.
The facility has the EMS workout room, multiple other weight rooms including a fully decked out Nike weightroom, turf area, outdoor field and pickleball court! Plus they have showers if you need to get cleaned up before you head back to work.
The Concourse K facility is located in a beautifully renovated building at 4700 Kingston St Denver, CO 80238. It’s about 5 minutes from the North side of Central Park.
