If you’re new to Colorado and suddenly noticing mo If you’re new to Colorado and suddenly noticing moths everywhere… welcome to Miller Moth season 🦋😅
Every spring (typically March–May), millions of miller moths migrate through Colorado’s Front Range — including Denver. An unexpected moth encounter can definitely be startling and irritating, so here’s what you should know:
✨ First: they are NOT harmful to people or pets.
(Cats actually love hunting them, and it’s perfectly safe.)
Miller moths are cousins to butterflies and play an important role in nature. They help with pollination by feeding on nectar and are also an important food source for birds and other wildlife — even bears!
🌙 Why do they end up in your house?
During the day, they hide in cool, dark places like garages, doorways, cars, and tiny cracks or crevices. Once the sun goes down, they’re highly attracted to light sources.
A few things that may help:
• Reduce indoor lighting at night
• Shake/rattle your door a little before opening it wide
• Keep doors closed as much as possible in the evenings
🧹 Can you get rid of them?
Unfortunately, there’s no magic fix. Some people vacuum them, catch and release them, or set simple light traps with soapy water.
According to pest experts, insecticides usually aren’t very effective because miller moths have a waxy body coating that makes them less susceptible. Plus, new moths continue migrating into the area nightly.
The good news? It’s temporary 💛
Colorado spring comes with a few fluttery visitors and before long, they’ll move on to the mountains for the summer.

🚗 Do you have a soon-to-be teen driver at home? Co 🚗 Do you have a soon-to-be teen driver at home? Colorado is making major changes to driver education requirements starting Jan. 1, 2027, and parents will want these updates on their radar now. 👀

Here’s what’s changing and how it compares to the current rules:

• Ages 15 to 17: Teens will be required to complete a full 30-hour driver’s ed course before getting a permit (online allowed).
Currently, some teens can qualify with only a 4-hour class.

• Ages 18 to 20: Drivers will need to complete either a 30-hour course or a 4-hour driver awareness class before getting licensed.
Currently, this age group is not required to take any course.

• No more skipping driver’s ed at 16+
Right now, teens 16 and older can get a permit without taking driver’s ed.

🏍️ Motorcycle permits for drivers under 21 will also change.

• A Colorado State Patrol-approved motorcycle safety course will now be required before getting a permit.
Currently, this is not required for all drivers under 21.

And here’s the update many families may appreciate most 👇

🚘 Colorado is expanding who can supervise practice driving for teens with permits.

In addition to parents, supervision can now include:
✔️ Grandparents with power of attorney
✔️ Foster parents
✔️ Approved driving instructors
✔️ Other adults age 21+ designated by the person who signed the liability affidavit

Under current rules, supervision options are more limited.

Additional updates include:
✔️ Stricter background checks for driving instructors
✔️ A new temporary license option valid for up to one year

If your child is approaching driving age, these new rules could impact your timeline and planning.
