You are less than two hours from one of the best summer playgrounds in Colorado, and most people don’t take nearly enough advantage of that. Summit County’s festival season runs from June through Labor Day, and the lineup this year is genuinely worth planning your weekends around. Here’s what I’d put on the calendar.
Breckenridge Agave Festival
June 26 through 28
Location: Main Street Station and The Village at Breckenridge
If you enjoy tequila and mezcal done seriously, this one is worth the drive. The Saturday Grand Tasting alone features more than 100 agave spirits, from well-known bottles to small-batch independent labels. Add in cocktail competitions, educational tastings, curated food pairings, and live music and you have a weekend that manages to be both a great party and a genuinely educational experience.
Fourth of July in Breckenridge
July 4
Location: Main Street
The parade down Main Street, live music, family events, and fireworks in the evening. Breckenridge does the Fourth the way a small mountain town should, with real community spirit and none of the chaos of a big city celebration. Get there early to stake out your spot on the parade route.
Breckenridge Summer Beer Festival
July 11, noon to 5pm
Location: Beaver Run Resort
More than 25 craft breweries, unlimited tastings, live music, and food vendors set against views of the Tenmile Range. If you’re a craft beer person and you have not been to this one, fix that this year. General admission is $50 and VIP runs $125 with full-size pours, exclusive releases, and a private area worth every penny.
Breckenridge Food and Wine Festival
July 24 through 26
Location: Main Street Station Plaza and The Village at Breckenridge
More than 300 wines, gourmet food, and live entertainment at the base of Peak Nine. Friday is a VIP wine pairing dinner, Saturday is the Grand Tasting, and Sunday wraps with Brunch and Vines. The combination of world-class wine and alpine scenery is exactly as good as it sounds.
Breck Epic
August 9 through 14
Location: Throughout the backcountry surrounding Breckenridge
A six-day mountain bike stage race covering some of the most stunning singletrack in the Rockies. Even if you’re not racing, the energy around town during Breck Epic is infectious. It’s the kind of event that makes you want to either get on a bike or at least watch the people who do.
Breckenridge Wine Classic and BIFA
August 20 through 22
Two major events happen the same weekend, which makes it one of the best weekends of the entire summer to be in Breckenridge. The Wine Classic runs August 20 through 22 and features hundreds of wines from different regions and producers at an all-inclusive tasting festival with live music throughout. BIFA, the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts, runs August 20 through 23 across the Arts District Campus in downtown Breckenridge, with large-scale installations, live performances, film, workshops, and creative experiences that draw artists and visitors from around the world. Pick a place to stay and plan to do both.
Hogfest: Bacon and Bourbon
August 28 through 30
Location: 505 South Main Street
Now in its ninth year, Hogfest brings together more than 30 distilleries for bourbon and whiskey tastings alongside bacon and pork dishes from local chefs, all with views of Peak Nine in the background. Live music runs throughout the weekend. It’s a late-summer party that hits harder than it has any right to.
Breckenridge Gathering at the Great Divide Art Festival
Labor Day Weekend
Location: Colorado Mountain College just north of downtown
The longest-running art festival in Summit County brings more than 100 juried artists from across the country to show original work in 13 categories including painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, and glass. Admission is free. Parking is free. The setting is beautiful. It’s one of those events that reminds you why people fall in love with this community.
The drive up is less than two hours from Denver. The festivals run all summer. The only question is which weekends you’re blocking off first.
