Try a Free Class with “Barre in the Park”

Barre in the Park is quickly approaching its first anniversary sculpting and firming Stapletonians. For those unfamiliar with the fitness phenomenon that is barre, it has origins in dance and is typically a series of tiny (isometric) movements designed to tone and strengthen muscles while making them more elastic.

When owner Megan Campbell first contemplated starting a barre business after earning her teaching certification, she talked to her neighbors. After receiving positive reception about her idea, she set up a “pop up” barre class at Jet Stream pool in July 2015.

“Twenty-five people showed up!,” she says.

After that, she just kept holding classes and people kept coming. A self-described “mompreneur,” Megan does it all when it comes to her small business, all while juggling a full time job and being mom to two young kids. She’s quick to add that she receives a lot of help from her husband, Brett.

If the temperature falls below 40 degrees, classes are held in Megan’s garage that she converted into a 500-square foot barre studio.

Every two weeks, Megan switches up the routines and music to keep it fresh for herself and her clients.

“I have workout ADD, I get really bored if I don’t switch things up,” she says. “I like that it keeps changing and it’s different and I think that’s what sets my classes apart from other barre classes.”

She describes her classes as challenging but notes that there are modifications for every fitness level and ability.

“Yes it’s hard but why would you pay me for something that’s easy?, she asks. “I feel like I’m being challenged teaching the classes and I think that there’s something to work for with all levels.”

Classes are one hour and there’s currently 11 to choose from each week. Megan recently added an additional instructor to teach barre, plus another instructor to teach Vinyasa yoga.
It’s $15 per class to drop in, or you can purchase a five or 10 class punch card for $11 per class. Unlimited monthly classes are $130. Megan offers childcare on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for $5 per child.

To sign up a class, you must register in advance here. Megan has a 12-hour cancellation policy.

Deal alert! If you want to check out Barre in the Park, the first class is free. Just make sure to sign up in advance.
