Anchor Center’s Sunset in the City Gala
In the heart of our beautiful neighborhood, Central Park, lies a beacon of hope and empowerment for visually impaired children and their families: the Anchor Center for Blind Children.
Founded in 1982, the Anchor Center has been a pioneer in providing comprehensive services for children from birth to five years old who are blind or visually impaired. The center’s mission is to provide early intervention education and support to help these children reach their full potential and thrive in a sighted world. One of the core principles of the Anchor Center is the belief that every child, regardless of their visual abilities, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Through individualized programs tailored to each child’s unique needs, the center focuses on fostering independence, confidence, and a love for learning.
Beyond its direct services, the Anchor Center plays a vital role in raising awareness about visual impairments and advocating for the rights and inclusion of individuals with visual disabilities in society.
I began volunteering for the Anchor center several years ago and from the moment I first stepped foot into the facility, I knew I would be a lifelong supporter and would happily contribute my time every year to help the incredible team of dedicated individuals fulfill their mission. This center is more than just a facility; it’s a nurturing environment where children with visual impairments discover their abilities and chart their course towards a bright future.
There are various ways to support the Anchor Center and one of my favorite events is around the corner, Sunset in the City! Sunset in the City is a unique, exclusive fundraiser for Anchor Center. Founded 28 years ago as A Day in the Country picnic, the event evolved into Sunset in the City and has grown to include more than 400 guests who gather for cocktails, dinner and live entertainment. Guests will hear from a featured speaker and have the opportunity to bid on silent and live auction items in support of Anchor Center.
There are many ways you can participate including signing up as a Table Host, Event Sponsor, or Guest (early bird pricing now available through May 31st)!

If you can’t make Sunset in the City Gala this year, please consider these other special events or a donation!
