New Beginnings: A Three-Part Guide to Transforming Your Home (Part 3)

Part 3: Crossing the Finish Line

Welcome back to the final installment of our New Beginnings series! Parts 1 and 2 covered defining your goals, assembling your project team, and navigating the design and construction phases. Now, in Part 3, we’re crossing the finish line as we dive into the final steps of the home renovation process.

New Beginnings Part 1: The Starting Line
New Beginnings Part 2: Implementing Your Design

Installation:

As construction nears completion, it’s time to bring your vision to life by installing fixtures, furnishings, and finishing touches. This phase is where all the planning and hard work truly start to shine. As interior designers, we coordinate the delivery and installation of furniture, lighting, window treatments, and decor items, ensuring that each piece aligns seamlessly with the overall design concept.

Furniture:

A renovation is a great time to assess your furniture and decide what needs to be replaced. As lifestyles evolve, so do our needs for functionality within our living spaces. Tailoring furniture to meet specific requirements, such as increased storage capacity, improved comfort, or better organization, enhances the renovated space’s overall usability. These pieces will also align with the updated style and layout, presenting a cohesive look throughout your new space.

But this doesn’t mean you have to get rid of everything! Keep furniture pieces that evoke positive emotions or memories. Whether it’s a cozy armchair that has been there through it all or a vibrant side table that sparks joy, incorporating meaningful items into the design can create a sense of warmth and authenticity in your home.

Pro Tip: Remember, a home renovation is more than just a physical transformation—it reflects your lifestyle! Each phase of the project is an opportunity to enhance your day-to-day routine.

Styling:

Hard finishes and structural elements are undoubtedly crucial for any design project, as they lay the foundation for the overall look and feel of your space. However, styling truly brings your space to life, infusing it with a unique personality that reflects your own aesthetic. Often, homeowners overlook the importance of styling in their design, resulting in a space that feels incomplete or lacks the ambiance they desire. Here’s what styling adds to your space:

  • Visual Depth and Interest: You can create a visually exciting and dynamic space by layering different textures, colors, and patterns throughout the room.
  • Cohesion: By skillfully selecting and arranging items, every part of the design feels intentional.
  • Functionality and Usability: Styling optimizes spaces for practical needs. Items like throw blankets, storage baskets, and trinket dishes make daily life easier and more comfortable.
  • Personalization and Identity: Styling transforms houses into homes by reflecting your personality and celebrating self-expression.

Attention to detail is crucial during this stage. As the designer, we supervise the placement of every item for proper spacing, alignment, and functionality. Whether hanging artwork, arranging throw pillows, or styling shelves, each element contributes to the overall ambiance of your newly renovated space.

Punch Lists and Final Walk-Throughs:

As the construction dust settles and the final touches are in place, it’s time for a thorough inspection. Your project team will make a punch list, identifying any remaining tasks or deficiencies to address. This could include items like touch-up paint or minor fixture adjustments.

Once the punch list items are completed, it’s time for the final walkthrough. This is your opportunity to ensure that every aspect meets your expectations and to ask lingering questions. We will address any concerns and provide guidance on maintaining and caring for your newly renovated space.
