I’m introducing a new series here on Central Park Scoop, Built Here: Core Stories from Central Park Business Owners! Business ownership is so much more than a beautiful product or revenue goal – I know because I’ve owned my own businesses for 20 years, including 10 as a local boutique fitness owner. And we all have stories to share!
I love being a guest contributor to the Scoop, reaching so many members of the community. I also host a podcast, The Fitness of Business, where I get to have insightful and inspiring conversations with other entrepreneurs and learn why they love what they do.
So I just knew there was a really cool opportunity to bring those mediums together! I reached out to Joe Phillips, the founder of Focus Real Estate and Central Park Scoop, about sharing content on something that’s important to both of us: shining a spotlight on the people behind the businesses that make our community special. Why they started their business, how they lean on the community for support, what drives them to show up each day. As a paid service I’m now offering to local businesses, I’ll be getting all their inspirational stories and inside info and sharing the interviews on my website as well as linking them here on the Scoop!
Our first interview is with the owner of a local business you’ve probably heard of: Brittany Plaven, owner of Aerial Cirque Over Denver, an aerial dance and circus studio. If you’re not familiar, the studio offers classes for kids all the way up to adults in aerial dance, where students progressively learn skills on various types of equipment including silks (long pieces of strong nylon fabric attached to the ceiling), trapezes, hammocks, and hoops, with the goal of increasing strength, confidence, and flexibility.
Brittany has a PhD in health education and started running Aerial Cirque with no business or leadership experience—and has built a thriving business, soon to be opening its third location. I talked to Brittany about her background as a figure skater, what it was like becoming a business owner at only 25 years old, and what the community here in Central Park means to her. And yes, I did take a spin on the silks with Brittany’s help!
Learn all about Brittany and Aerial Cirque Over Denver in my full-length video interview here and you can check out Aerial Cirque’s Instagram and Facebook for more information on the studios!
