Ok, this is major news for us in Central Park! No matter if you live north or south of I-70, I bet you run an errand or grab a meal at Northfield at least once a week. Now, the whole shopping area is undergoing a major transformation that’s in line with the Central Park vibe, according to reporting from Chain Store Age.
Since Stockdale Capital Partners bought the mall in 2022, they have been announcing lots of changes that honestly sound pretty amazing. We told you about Wayfair’s first brick and mortar store in the Mountain West region coming, we told you about Life Time gym coming where JC Penny used to be, we told you about the Red Lobster being replaced by a Bubba’s 33. Probably the most exciting news is that Trader Joe’s has submitted a plan to the city to build on the empty lot to the north of Old Navy. We stopped by recently and work on the site has begun! No opening date as of yet, but it appears the grocery store will be 12,500 square feet and they will have 153 parking spots. Now, beyond all that, there’s a big change coming to the space as a whole.
With the goal of increasing the community, Main Street feel, the developers are making a big chunk of the area into a pedestrian-friendly zone. A quarter-mile road through the middle of the shops—between 47th and 48th Avenues—is being totally revamped to add kids play areas, space for open-air dining, concerts and fitness. The name has also changed to Avenues at Northfield.
More interesting updates: A new builder is also proposing building new duplex homes between Northfield Boulevard and 48th Street from Verbena to Willow. According to Denver Business Journal, a homebuilder called BB Living has submitted a plan to the city proposing to use that space—it’s a parking lot now—to develop over 200 units with two car garages and private yards, and a large communal green space area. As far as we know now, these will be rental units and not for sale.
As always, we’ll keep you posted on the latest exciting changes coming to our community!
