As a trained occupational therapist (OT) with a deep appreciation for intentional, functional movement, I was excited to hear that Shari Barta, a fellow OT and Central Park mom, was opening Posture Power Wellness right here in the neighborhood. I’m always on the lookout for meaningful, accessible wellness options—especially ones that go beyond surface-level fitness to truly support healing and strength from the inside out.
Located in the 29th Avenue Town Center at 7341 E 29th Ave, Posture Power Wellness is Shari’s second studio (her first is in Cherry Creek North). What sets this space apart is its therapist-led approach to Pilates, pelvic floor health, and corrective movement. It’s a studio that prioritizes purpose over trends, and thoughtful, functional strength over fast-paced fitness fads.
More Than Just Pilates
Posture Power Wellness isn’t your typical Pilates studio. Shari is both an occupational therapist and a pelvic floor therapist, and her classes reflect that deep understanding of body mechanics and individualized care. Every class is limited to six participants, so each person receives personal attention and form cues to maximize the impact of their movement.
“There are a lot of times we think we’re doing something good for our bodies,” Shari shared, “but we’re actually hurting our pelvic floor. This studio is about helping you get strong from the inside out—with purpose and fun.”
In addition to group classes, the studio also offers private and duet sessions, making it a welcoming space for people at any stage in their wellness journey.
A Mission Rooted in Lived Experience
Shari’s path to opening the studio is deeply personal. After 20+ years working in traditional healthcare and experiencing her own postpartum pelvic floor issues, she saw firsthand the gaps in support for women—especially when it came to accessible, movement-based therapy.
“I was gaslighted. A female doctor told me to just deal with it,” she told me. “So I learned everything I could, cured myself through movement, and built the Core Rehab program from that place.”
That Core Rehab class—offered daily—is the cornerstone of her programming. It blends Pilates with pelvic floor therapy, and was designed using the very techniques Shari used in her own healing journey.
Experiencing the Core Rehab Class
After our conversation, Shari guided me through a Core Rehab session, and I was incredibly impressed by the detail, precision, and effectiveness of each movement. As someone with a therapy background, I immediately recognized the depth of knowledge behind her programming. As a mom and community member, I was just grateful a studio like this now exists so close to home.
Core Rehab focuses on:
- Activating the transverse abdominis, the deep core stabilizer
- Improving pelvic alignment and breathing patterns
- Building strength without strain through precise, intentional movement
Everything we did was designed to wake up underutilized muscles and retrain the body for functional, pain-free movement.
“This is Pilates with purpose,” Shari explained. “Body mechanics matter—it’s the difference between progress and injury.”
Who It’s For
One of the things I love most about Posture Power Wellness is that it’s for everyone. Clients range in age from 9 to 89, and classes are thoughtfully modified based on body size, ability, and goals.
“There’s so much value in having multiple generations in one room,” Shari shared. “And I’m really passionate about working with kids and teens, especially those who are hypermobile or involved in competitive sports. This kind of training helps prevent injuries and build lifelong stability.”
Her own daughter, a competitive dancer, has never had a chronic injury after more than a decade of rigorous training—and Shari credits the work they’ve done together on the reformer.
Why It Matters
