Stapleton resident Ashley Stidham vividly remembers the day when inspiration struck to open her own online clothing boutique. The mother of two, ages 3 and 1, ended up leaving a clothing store empty-handed after a disastrous dressing room experience.
“I was wearing the baby and had to lay her down on the dirty floor to try on clothes. And our toddler was pulling at my clothes screaming, “Mommy! Mommy!’ the entire time,” she recalls. “I thought there has to be many other moms who feel like this.”
After a brainstorming call with her step mom who lives in Florida, she not only gained a supporter, but a business partner and investor. Things moved pretty quickly after that and Ashley’s Closet opened for business May 2015.
Since there’s no storefront or real overhead, Ashley can offer clothes and accessories you’d expect to see in Cherry Creek or a trendy boutique in the city for competitive prices.
The clothes she offers are definitely with moms in mind. If you are like me, I want to look nice and put together but I don’t necessarily get to leisurely shop at boutiques or the mall on a whim — or ever! My two boys have no patience when it comes to shopping unless it involves a toy store.
Ashley’s pieces can be paired with multiple other pieces and typically feature a signature detail – like lace, fringe, pleather, large zippers, beading, asymmetrical cuts or elbow patches. Blousy tops are a favorite of Ashley’s since they can be stylishly worn before, during and after pregnancy.
At any given time, Ashley carries about 120 different pieces, ranging from workout gear (some is even imported from South Africa), skinny jeans, leggings, shirts, sweaters, accessories and even party dresses. She usually carries two small, medium and large sizes in each style. Prices typically range from $20 to $75.
Ashley selects the clothes in person by going to major merchandise markets – most recently in Miami – meeting with manufacturers, looking at and feeling the clothing to make sure each piece meets her quality standards.
Make a purchase at Ashley’s Closet online and Ashley will deliver your purchase the next day at no charge to anyone who lives Stapleton.
“I wanted to let moms be able try the clothes on at their house and make it as easy as possible to for them to get nice things,” Ashley says. “I want to be convenient and close so they can pop over and look at something if they’re not sure about the fit.”
If a group of friends want to throw a clothing party, Ashley is happy to host in her home – or yours. She recently hosted a staff holiday party for a Stapleton business owner. She has several full racks of clothing to choose from as well as a dressing area with full mirrors. The organizer or host of the party can earn 10 percent of total party sales towards merchandise. Email Ashley at [email protected] if you are interested in throwing a party.
After reviewing the offerings on Ashley’s website, I was sold once I was able to see the clothes in person – the quality and detail simply doesn’t translate well in a photo. I felt like about 90 percent of the clothes for sale needed to come home with me. Just don’t tell my husband!
Deal alert! If you live in Stapleton and mention “Stapleton Scoop” when ordering, Ashley will knock 10 percent off the purchase price! (Offer good until February 2016.)” Join her Facebook page here for sneak peaks at new offerings, contests and deals.
