Back in the early 80s, my mom started a business called Prime Time Workshops, dedicated to helping working moms balance their careers and families. (Fun fact: my sister and I recorded the outgoing answering machine message, which I can still recite word-for-word!)

As a kid, I couldn’t appreciate the significance of my mom’s mission. Now, as both a mother and entrepreneur myself, I totally understand the delicate balance she was trying to help others achieve.

As a career-long entrepreneur, I’ve experienced business ownership from multiple angles. I started as a single business owner—ah, the luxury of unlimited energy, uninterrupted thoughts, and surviving on minimal sleep! Today, I navigate business ownership as a married mom of a toddler and stepmom to two teenagers.

While being a mom, stepmom, and wife brings incredible joy, it demands thoughtful and intentional planning. The reality is: we can’t do everything perfectly (I know, but we really try to!) but we can do the important things well.

With just a few precious hours of focused work while my daughter is at preschool, I’ve mastered efficiency through:

  • Creating dedicated blocks for productivity, meetings, and business development
  • Setting aside Sunday evenings for weekly planning
  • Leveraging my peak creative energy during morning hours (pretty sure my brain shuts off entirely after 3 PM)
  • Designating specific days for client meetings and coaching
  • Prioritizing daily movement by scheduling it like any other important meeting

Connection with fellow parent entrepreneurs is vital. These relationships provide understanding, validation, accountability, and resource-sharing. Sometimes, you just need someone who gets it to say, “This is hard, but you’re doing great!”

Understanding that time is precious means every decision must align with both business and personal values. Clarity in these values enables swift, confident decision-making that maximizes impact.
