The Central Park MCA, the nonprofit organization that runs our community, really delivers when it comes to summer events. A lot of happenings are free, most are outside, and there’s something for pretty much everyone. Here’s a quick sampling of the different types of events in Central Park this June for kids, adults, and even canine friends; check the full MCA calendar for even more summer fun.
June 5
Pours in the Park || $35, Front Porch Park, 6pm to 8pm
Calling all wine buffs: This event will be for listening to live music while drinking specifically-selected wines paired with charcuterie. Over-21 only, obviously.
June 6
Concert on the Green: That Eighties Band || Free, South Green, 7pm to 9pm
The first of a series of summer outdoor concerts, it’s a great, kid-friendly night to lounge on a lawn chair and listen to 80s throwback hits. The event is free and there’ll be food trucks to purchase snacks, dinner, or dessert.
June 11
MoJaBlu Concert Series: Little Moses Jones Band || Free, North Green, 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Enjoy the first of the MoJABlue concert series with this 90s and 2000s R&B plus hip-hop band.
June 12
Summer of Soul screening || $10, The Cube, 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm
The 2021 documentary about the Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969 was directed by Questlove and has footage of performances from Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and more. The event will be hosted by Dr. Vincent Piturro, a film studies professor at MSU Denver and writer of The Indie Prof column in The Front Porch newspaper. And you can contribute to a donation drive: Bring a nonperishable food or personal care item for MSU’s student food bank and get your first popcorn and soft drink free.
June 13
Central Bark || Free to watch/$15 to enter the costume contest, North Green, 9am to 11am
Bring your pup to join the parade and costume contest (register in advance for the latter) or just cheer on a bunch of really cute dogs.
June 20
Movie on the Green: The Princess Bride || Free, Founders Green, dusk
An outdoor screening of the family classic. Sprawl on a blanket to root for Princess Buttercup and Westley. As you wish!
June 21
Farmers Market || South Green, 8:30am to 12:30pm
The Central Park Farmers Market opens for the season! It’s always a great place to wander and find ingredient inspiration or a little treat, with local produce, baked goods, meats, and more from Colorado vendors. They’ll be there every Sunday through the fall.
