Working in both real estate and property management in Central Park, it’s crucial to have a solid roster of home professionals we can call on for our clients. When a client is worried about possible hail damage on a roof, a leaky pipe, or whether their furnace isn’t heating properly, we need people we can trust to show up fast, do good work and charge a reasonable price.
Over 13 years working in the neighborhood, we’ve built up a solid list of trusted contractors! And here at Focus Real Estate, we’re starting a new series where we share them with you—the folks we work with over and over again. (And in case you wondered—we don’t get any financial benefit from these recommendations. We also can’t be responsible for the service quality, pricing, or outcomes, even though these contractors have been great for us)
First up on our list of contractors we like and want to share: our go-to HVAC team! We’ve been working with The Weather Changers for several years and they’ve earned our trust for a couple of big reasons—they do solid work and they’re honest. No unnecessary upselling, no pressure, no ridiculous pricing. They’re a family-owned, locally operated company that’s been operating in the area since 2009.
We’re mentioning them now because there are two times a year you should really think about getting your furnace checked out: in the fall before it starts working overtime, and right about now, after it’s been running all winter.
What actually happens during a furnace tune-up? I think the answer to that varies widely by vendor, so I had one of the pros from The Weather Changers come by my house to walk me through it and I recorded it to share with you below! First, they wipe down exterior parts as well as the more delicate stuff like the flame sensors and tubing. Then they move on to the technical side: checking the functioning of electrical components like connections and capacitors (which help start the blower), making sure the filter and blower are clean, and actually running the system to check temperature and airflow.
They’ll also do a combustion analysis to see how efficiently everything is running, and let you know if anything needs to be repaired or improved to make sure you’re all set for next year.
Check out the video I did with one of their technicians to see what they do, and give them a call if you want your own furnace checked out! If you mention the Central Park Scoop video they’ll give you 10% off your service!
