Bluff Lake Nature Center has officially broken ground on its Campus Improvements Project — a major milestone in enhancing this beloved community resource! With construction now underway, many visitors have been asking the same question:

Can you still access Bluff Lake during construction?
The answer is YES — with a few changes.

Site Access During Construction

While Bluff Lake remains open to the public, there are important updates to how you can access the site:

No Onsite Parking

During construction, the entire parking lot and the ramp/stairs leading into the site will be closed. That area (highlighted in orange on our site map) will be an active construction zone.

New Pedestrian Entrances

To ensure continued access, Bluff Lake has activated two pedestrian entrances:

  • Havana Pedestrian Entrance (A):
Located directly across from the Florence Way crosswalk. This entrance is permanent and will offer long-term accessibility for neighbors to the north and west.
  • Southwest Pedestrian Entrance (B):
Open for the duration of construction (approximately one year), this entrance is intended for visitors coming from the south and east.

Parking Options

There is no onsite parking during construction. Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transit when possible. For those who need to drive, street parking is available on the west and south sides of the site.

The New “Havana Headquarters”

Bluff Lake’s team has set up a temporary base of operations near the Havana Entrance that includes:

  • Supply storage
  • Portable restrooms and handwashing stations
  • A large shade structure
  • Staff meeting and check-in areas

This space will support all ongoing public programs and staff activity during the construction period.
