Have you heard…FlyteCo Tower in Central Park is now offering tower tours 6 days a week! We’ve lived a block away from the tower for 12+ years and we finally made our way up to the top. Below is the scoop on our experience with local tour guide Sean Henson, in case you think you may want to try it out!
To start our tower tour, we booked it online in advance, which was quick and easy. (more on that to come below). When we arrived, we were instructed to fill out a quick waiver and Sean, our guide, gave us a brief overview of his background along with the plan. With a experience as a flight attendant, licensed pilot and Denver area tour guide he was the perfect person to give us this tour of this iconic building! Sean was friendly, welcoming, and great with answering our questions.
Once that brief chat is done it was time to head up the stairs to start making our trek to the top! Be warned there is only an elevator for a few stories of the trip and it’s 11 flights of stairs to the top. If you have a health concern that makes that difficult this may not be the best tour for you. Also, you can’t bring guests under the age of 10, including babies even if you can carry them. They are strict on that policy for liability reasons, so keep the little ones at home or on the main few levels of the facility where there are games, etc for them.
As you walk up the stairs Sean has posted some old photos and maps of the airport for you to check out as you take breaks. It’s fun to see how things have changed from then to now. For example, where our house is now used to be right in the terminal area where people would have been waiting for their flights. Our office at Progress Coworking by Stanley Marketplace would have been right by what used to be a large runway. If you live in the neighborhood you’ll be able to pinpoint what used to be in your area from the various maps Sean has on hand.
When you arrive to the top, Sean will allow you plenty of time to enjoy the view. You’ll have a 360 view that will allow you to see the mountains, downtown, Anschutz Medical Campus, 80 acre Central Park, the tower at DIA, the Denver Tech Center & more. You’re welcome to take pictures and videos. Here are a few of our many pics:
As you linger in the top of the tower, Sean will share several really interesting stories about the tower and the area that you maybe haven’t heard before. With history going back to 1929 there are a lot of fascinating stories to be told! They were really interesting and I’m tempted to reference them here, but I don’t want to spoil anything for your tour! Let’s just say they range from encouraging to tragic!
Once you’ve had enough time enjoying the view you are free to start your walk back downstairs when you’re done at your own pace.
At the bottom you are welcome to enjoy the food and drink options at FlyteCo tower. Taking the tour then having dinner or a drink at one of their multiple bars are both good options. Here is the food menu in case you haven’t been.
