Holiday Wines from Mr. B’s!
Holiday season celebrations are just starting, and a bottle of wine as a gift, or for your own table, is key this time of year from Thanksgiving through the end of the holidays. We asked Ryan Corey, General Manager and Wine Buyer at Mr B’s Wine & Spirits at Stanley Marketplace for suggestions and recommendations for selecting wines that work well with a range of personal tastes and budgets. Here’s what he told us are some of his favorites for this time of year:
- Stirm, Wirz Vineyard, Zinfandel 2019
Not your grandmother’s zinfandel – this one blends in 10% Riesling to give the wine lift and zip. Pairs perfectly with the cranberry sauce. - Les Hauts de Mezy Bourgogne Rouge 2018
Easy drinking and inexpensive. An ideal wine when you have a lot of drinkers and you don’t want to spend a fortune. This Pinot Noir will make everyone happy. You will especially love it when it’s paired with the stuffing. - Beurer Trollinger, 2021
In the Swabia region of Germany, Trollinger in the most widely planted variety. Think tart raspberry, pomegranate flavors, and sage. Perfect for the turkey! - Dunites Moy Mell White Wine 2021
This is from an awesome couple making fantastic wine in Santa Barbara’s SLO coast. “Moy Mell” means “Meadow of Honey” and was the name for a gathering place in ancient Gaelic. It’s a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Albarino. Pairs perfectly with everyone’s favorites, the mashed potatoes. - Domane Carillon Bourgogne Aligote 2019
This is a lesser known white grape variety of Burgundy, and it’s like if Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay had a baby. The wine sees a bit of oak so it’ll make your aunt who loves buttery chardonnay happy!
Some other choices that I like that will go well for Thanksgiving or any other occasion for the holiday are Philip Lardot Der Graf Riesling, Francois Pinon Brut Vouvray, Hundred Suns Gamay Noir 2021, and the Leon Pink Gold.
